When Republicans say “we’re a republic, not a democracy,” it’s often used to downplay the importance of majority rule, or to justify minority rule through mechanisms like extreme gerrymandering, the Electoral College, or restrictions on voting. But calling the U.S. a republic doesn’t erase its democratic character—it only describes the structure that channels democracy through elected representatives and constitutional safeguards.

The Crawford County Missouri Democratic club is a group of concerned citizens working together to address local, state and federal issues through supporting Democratic candidates, making phone calls, networking, writing letters to the editor, using social media, and protesting. Our members are Democrats, Progressives and Independents living in Cuba, Steelville, Bourbon, Sullivan and the rural areas of beautiful and pristine Crawford County.
